A concept inventory is an assessment designed to measure student understanding of the conceptual foundations of a course.  In this work, we design a concept inventory aimed at basic data structures, typically learned in the second course taken by CS students.  I will discuss the development of the CI, the learning goals we are targeting, the misconceptions we discovered, and some of the issues unique to designing a concept inventory for Computer Science.
