University of Illinois at Chicago learning scientist Susan R. Goldman has been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, one of the nation’s most prestigious honorary societies and research centers.

At the invitation of U of I President Tim Killeen and UIC Chancellor Michael AmiridisDr. Joan Ferrini-Mundy, NSF Assistant Director for Education and Human Resources, dedicated a full day at UIC on Monday, September 19th.

The Pioneer Press (St. Paul, Minn.) quotes Dr. James Pellegrino, co-director of the Learning Sciences Research Institute at UIC and distinguished professor of liberal arts and sciences, psychology and education, in a story looking at the transition of some schools to more of a digital emphasis in classrooms.

LSRI is proud to announce that nominations are open for its new Wagreich award.

The Philip Wagreich STEM Education Award is an award of $500 given in recognition of an individualʼs contributions to the improvement of STEM education through scholarship and service.

Jim Pellegrino, co-director of Learning Sciences Research Institute, has been elected vice president of the National Academy of Education.

He will serve in the position until 2017.
