In this brown bag session, Allen will present some findings from the GIVE project, an NSF-funded research project on extending learning at science museum exhibits. The research identified key pedagogical strategies for deepening the inquiry and engagement of school field trips visiting a science museum, using a game-like activity. The project combined a design-based approach in the early stages, with an RCT experimental design in the later phases. Analysis focused on videotapes of groups using exhibits, with very fine-grained observational protocols.
