Embodiment and Designing a New Era of STEM Learning Technologies
Friday, March 16, 2018 1:00PM to 2:30PM
LSRI 1535, 1240 W Harrison Street

In this talk I will describe several current projects examining how body movement and action support learning across a range of STEM topics. Building from embodied cognition and associated theories of learning, we are designing simulation technologies that recognize and respond to the gestures and whole-body movements that students enact when reasoning about and explaining critical ideas in STEM. I will describe data collected from studies of these technologies in a variety of learning contexts from classrooms to museums, and I will discuss principles of embodied learning design and implications for future research in the learning sciences.
