Partnership READ (Reading Essentials and Assessment Development) of the University of Illinois at Chicago is dedicated to improving literacy teaching and learning in Chicago Public Schools. Projects within Partnership READ emphasize collaboration among participants within the public schools, the university, and the funding agency.
The project's mission is to:
- Improve teachers' knowledge of literacy, literacy instruction, and literacy assessment
- Improve teachers' literacy practices in the classroom based on evidence of student learning
- Promote grade and school wide teacher collaborations that support high quality instructional decision making
- Promote the development of infrastructure that supports school based learning communities and shared decision making
- Partner with schools to create demonstration sites for high quality literacy instruction and student achievement
