Design In-Sites for Digital Video Research in the Learning Sciences: The Points of Viewing Theory, Ricki Goldman; CREATE Lab, New York University (Click name for speaker's biography) Learning Sciences Brown Bag Colloquium invites you to a virtual presentation by; Ricki Goldman Design In-Sites for Digital Video Research in the Learning Sciences: The Points of Viewing Theory, "Quisitive" Methods, and a Video Analysis Tool called Orion-beta™ Dr. Goldman will present her talk via interactive video technology. What is the Points of Viewing Theory and how has it been actualized in the design of video research tools and methods in the Learning Sciences over the last decade? To answer this, Goldman and her colleagues have proposed the application of a new method called Quisitive Research. In this talk and discussion, Goldman presents 7 Design In-Sites in building Orion-beta, an experimental tool designed not only to integrate Quantitative and Qualitative methods, but also to explore the benefits and limits of working from diverse perspectives in a community of inquiry. POVT has at its heart the intersecting perspectives of all participants with a stake in the community. It overcomes the static, isolating, individualized approach to point of view, in favor of the dynamic tension that operates among points of viewing—points that generate intersecting sight-lines, enabling people to catch sight of each other, as interpreters, even as they project their own point of view. To embrace how these points of viewing converge and diverge, in a quisitive manner, using Orion-beta leads to a deeper understanding of, the event and/or the recorded video event, the context and the meaning that is made collaboratively from collected data.
